interviewed...
Jan Turner

jtsetter@willmar.com

She was a music teacher at a Christian school
in Willmar in 1989. While playing the trumpet
in church, Jan began experiencing flu-like
symptoms. Soon the pain moved throughout
her body and she went to the emergency
room, then airlifted to Abbott Northwestern
Hospital in Minneapolis and put on life support
as her organs shut down. Her family was told
she wouldn't survive and she remained in a
coma for a week.

Due to poor blood circulation her arms and legs
had to be amputated. "But I never thought of
giving up. I just had to learn how to do things
differently."

She is a motivational speaker and tells people
she's not "disabled," but "differently abled."
Besides speaking to helping students
understand every day is a gift, Jan also is a
resource for soldiers returning from Iraq with
no arms or legs.

Judge Zakia Hakki

Member of the Iraqi Parliament

She was born in Baghdad, one of nine
children. All the others have become medical
doctors, but in 1959, Zakia Hakki became the
first female judge in the Middle East.

She has spent her entire life resisting all police
states. Her husband was killed by Saddem
Huessin because of her activism as a warning
to her.  But that did not stop her. Even a
failed assassination attempt against her life
would not stop her fighting for justice for
women and children in Iraq.

Tracey Moore

Triatholon Athlete
Contact Tracey

Tracey Moore, 46, became an amputee after a
failed suicide attempt. She now competes to
inspire others.

Most of the details of that day are fuzzy, but
there is one image Tracey Moore has
permanently ingrained in her memory. The
date was Feb. 26, 2000. The emergency room
physician at Long Beach Memorial Hospital
dangled a leg by its big toe in front of her face.

It was her leg.

Energy Essentials

My passion for Bio Magnetics came as a gift of life
because of the Lyme Disease which almost took
my son's & my life last year (Refer to L.A. Times
April 30, 1997 article). My son's phenomenal
recovery as well as my own was enough to let me
know that there was something profoundly special
about this "essential" magnetic field. My fascination
with this miraculous energy led me to the top
Scientists & Doctors who's studies have given
hope to many ill people, and with the application
of magnetics, it has given "renewed life" in many
instances.

Look For the Moon in the Morning

When Leda Sanford became the first woman
publisher of a major American magazine, she was
only the first of many liberated women who would
follow her into the higher ranks of magazine
publishing. It was the age of reincarnation for
American women who were beginning to combine
home and career in the seventies. As publisher of
American Home magazine she redirected the
publication, focusing on simple solutions for the
more demanding lifestyles of the new woman.

During her three years as President, Publisher and
Editor-in-Chief she traveled extensively delivering
dozens of speeches on the “emerging woman”
who was redefining American life.

Her passion for this concept became a lifelong
mission to encourage women in the quest for
empowerment.
